50% is the new threshold
A full 50% in North Carolina of people that voted for Hillary Clinton and another 50% in Indiana that voted for Hillary Clinton say they will not back Barack Obama in the General Election.

Yes, you can call it a consequence of the heated primary battle and some will settle down and cross over. However, there's a lot of people out there like me who will not cross over.

More damning, 33% said they would vote for McCain over Obama in Indiana, and 38% in North Carolina.

Obama voters appear to be more willing to support Clinton in November. In Indiana, 59 percent of Obama backers said they'd vote for Clinton, and 70 percent of Obama backers in North Carolina said vote for her against McCain.

If he does become the Democratic nominee... why do the words "Republican Circle Jerk" keep coming to my lips?

Barack is a great example of a candidate who should (and does) do well in primaries against other Democrats, but would do terrible against a Republican opponent. (Democrats always do this! See: Michael Dukakis, George McGovern, Hubert Humphrey or Adlai Stevenson.)

Sending Barack might actually be the only way that a Republican could win this time.

ugh, yes, the new McGovern. Have you noticed how close their campaign symbols are?

Oh yes. It didn't shock me at all that McGovern endorsed Obama. Gary Hart too. If Obama is taking campaign advice from these people, then he will suffer the same fate as them. I only hope he loses before he becomes the nominee.

If he becomes the nominee, and he "pulls a McGovern" (winning only his homestate), then he won't be the only one who suffers. We all will suffer for his vanity. The war will go on unabated. The economy will continue to sink like a stone. God, if a Democrat loses this time, we ALL lose.

I cannot remember if you have said on the politics forum before, but who would you vote for in the general?

At this stage, no one, I'd most likely sit it out. Neither has the package that i look for in a presidential candidate, Obama has better social policies, but shitty economic ones and a terrible health care proposal, and McCain who has better economic policies, but shitty social ones, and a terrible health care proposal.

So in a match-up of gouging my eye out or chopping my foot off, I'll sit at home and do neither.
